Nominated by Greg McKenna, 2i Testing are pleased to announce that our Charity of the Year for 2019 is JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
JDRF is a non-profit organisation that funds type 1 diabetes research.
Type 1 (Juvenile diabetes) is a form of diabetes where the immune system destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. The cause of this is still currently unknown. The only way to manage the condition is through insulin therapy. If left untreated, diabetes can cause many complications and can have fatal consequences in a short space of time. JDRF make a significant investment in research that will cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes and its complications.
How is 2i raising money for JDRF?
2i Testing is aiming to do a range of fundraising events throughout 2019 to raise funds for JDRF, these will include:
Greg McKenna, Principal Consultant of 2i, says:
"As a parent of a child with Type 1 diabetes, I can say the condition is life changing. We are hugely reliant on technology to deliver insulin, take blood sugar readings and help us calculate insulin dosage based on food carbohydrate content and blood sugar levels. Diabetes is a horrible condition that always needs constant attention to manage it and can significantly impact the long-term health of those who have the condition. As a family we very much appreciate the research work that JDRF do. It leads to better technology that takes more responsibility of managing the condition and hopefully we are closer to Type 1 prevention and hopefully a cure. We are very grateful to 2i for choosing JDRF to be the nominated charity this year. I will personally be undertaking some events this year to raise funds, and I hope to identify some events that the 2i team can get involved in and perhaps help raise further sponsorship."
