Head of HR 

Location: Edinburgh or Glasgow (Remote Working initially) 

Role Overview:

The Head of Human Resources will be a creative, collaborative, focused and effective leader who is passionate about our vision and committed to our Strategic Plan. As a member of our Senior Management team, they will role model behaviours which underpin our values. They will drive high performance, employee engagement and development. 

Our Head of HR will be responsible for providing strategic advice, guidance and leadership across 2i on all aspects of Human Resources. They will be expected to lead the strategic development across a range of Human Resource areas including Recruitment, Workforce Planning, Career Development, Learning & Development and Performance Management as well as being required to ensure that HR policies and procedures are legally compliant. They will shape, develop and implement a clear People Strategy that feeds into 2i’s overall Strategic Plan. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Leads the HR function to ensure it supports and facilitates the delivery of strategic outcomes and objectives and provides high quality, timely HR support
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and Senior Management team, providing them with guidance and support on a full range of HR activities to ensure a fair and consistent approach to people management across 2i
  • Responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of our People Strategy
  • Take a lead role in strengthening the organisational culture, ensuring that 2i values are lived and embedded
  • Establishes a consistent people centred approach to management, which supports the values and culture of 2i, and drives delivery of our Strategic Plan
  • Keep up to date with legislation and advise management on compliance and risk factors
  • Design and implement leadership, management development and talent management strategies to ensure effective succession planning
  • Support people managers to ensure fair and equitable application of internal procedures is applied in cases of discipline, grievance or staff absence – managing complex ER cases and appeals as and when required
  • Act proactively in reviewing all people management processes and procedures and implement or recommend changes to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Work to achieve ‘best in class’ employer status through recognised accreditation frameworks
  • Work with the HR team to implement and embed a robust metric framework for the function that enables the demonstration of value added by the service to the wider organisation
  • Manage, coach, inspire and motivate the HR team to maximise their potential and ensure, through the performance management process, that their learning is maintained and developed
  • Identify and manage corporate and departmental risks through a robust risk assessment framework

Key requirements:

  • Previous experience of working in a standalone HR function
  • Proven HR experience CIPD Level 7 or equivalent
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of employment law
  • Significant HR expertise gained at a senior / Head of Function level 
  • Broad experience of employee relations and of managing organisational change competency frameworks, performance management, career development, talent management, learning & development, skills audits and succession processes
  • Experience of working in a dynamic, growing and changing working environment
  • Ability to think and plan operationally and strategically
  • Ability to persuade, influence and negotiate at all levels
  • Significant leadership and management experience working with executive and senior management teams
  • Developing a customer-focused company culture that emphasises quality, continuous improvement, employee retention and development
  • Experience of innovative recruitment and workforce planning solutions
  • A strong and effective leader
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal with a proven track record in dealing with complex, contentious and sensitive information
  • Self-motivated and able to work under own autonomy

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and experience of the IT sector
  • A strong understanding of off-payroll working (IR35) legislation
