Carbon Reduction Targets

Completed carbon reduction initiatives

The following measures and projects that contributed to reductions in 2023:

  • Moving into our new 2i office space, which utilises 100% renewable energy.
  • The launch of our electric vehicle scheme, providing employees access to clean personal travel with a company provided discount.
  • The cycle to work scheme continuing to be a success, with many eligible employees opting to utilise the scheme, cutting emissions further. For business travel, we encouraged all employees to use public transportation – bus and train wherever possible and limit access to air travel.
  • Traditionally, once a year, we invite all employees to attend our 2i Connect; a full day conference where we share strategy updates, training, and awards. To minimise our carbon emissions, we held the connect at a university in Glasgow, ensuring easiest access to as many employees as possible though public transport.

We are committed to championing the following standards for our Carbon Emissions Reduction Plan

Recycling Bag
  • Paper Conservation: Print only when necessary, favouring black and white over colour where feasible.
  • Waste Reduction: Implementing new strategies to reduce waste generation within the business.
  • Resource Efficiency: Promoting responsible and conscious usage of water and electricity among staff.
  • Material Recycling: Actively engaging in extensive recycling practices to minimise material waste.

  • Technology-Enabled Travel Reduction: Harness technology to decrease the need for physical travel
  • Travel Emissions Reduction: Actively reduce business travel by air, rail, and road through rigorous measurement and the adoption of a sustainable travel policy.

  • Supplier Collaboration: Collaborate with suppliers to gain a deep understanding of their emissions profiles.
  • Climate Integration in Decision-Making: Embed climate considerations into the core of our decision-making processes and business strategies.
  • Carbon Impact Education: Maintain ongoing educational efforts to raise awareness among our employees, inspiring them to reduce their carbon footprint both within and outside of the workplace.
  • Transparent Environmental Reporting: Ensure transparent reporting of our environmental metrics, sharing this information both internally and externally to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability.

As we actively pursue these measures to reduce our carbon footprint, 2i is fully committed to our journey toward net zero emissions by 2050. By implementing the measures outlined above and continuously seeking sustainable solutions, we are confident that we can make a significant positive impact as an organisation for a more eco-conscious future.

*Scope 1

  • 2i owns no furnaces nor company vehicles. For office related statistics, 2i only accounts for the emissions output by the primary office building in Edinburgh. This is our only official owned office, where others are only utilised via renting on demand.

**Scope 2

  • The emissions figures comprise electricity usage for the Edinburgh office - purchased energy from utility providers.
  • Our electricity sources are 100% renewable with 0 g/kWh CO2 emissions

***Scope 3

  • Categories 4 and 9 Upstream and Downstream Transportation/Distribution. As 2i is an administration-based business, we do not purchase or sell any goods, there are therefore no figures to report against categories 4 and 9.
  • Category 5 Waste generated in operations. As an administration-based, professional services provider, waste is limited to general office waste.
  • Category 6 Business Travel. We have recorded the mileage for business travel across car, train, tram, tube and internal flights. We have used the UK Government GHG Conversion Factors to translate all usage to CO2e.
Category 7 Employee Commuting. Compiled using information from office visiting and travels to external client sites. Averaging 0.12 tCO2E per employee.
